Bi-Annual Middle School Health Fair Promotes Healthy Choices

The Fair will impact 700 youth and over 100 adults Crook County’s bi-annual Middle School Health Fair will take place April 4th, 2014 at Crook County Middle School (CCMS). The theme of this year’s fair is “Healthy Choices.” Activities will focus on helping youth consider the short and long term health effects of their decisions. The Fair is jointly sponsored by the Crook County Health Department and the Community Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP). The fair organizers identified priority areas for programming by surveying CCMS staff about student health needs. Thus, the over 30 interactive booths will cover topics ranging from healthy self esteem and decision making to tobacco and obesity prevention.
The Fair will feature displays from local healthcare providers, behavioral health services, youth groups and physical activity oriented organizations. Weather permitting, AirLink will land their helicopter at the school during the event, providing students a rare look into the exciting field of emergency services.
The Health Fair represents a crucial educational opportunity for youth to learn the importance of making healthy choices and to become acquainted with occupations in the healthcare field. The Fair is open to all Crook County youth of middle school age as well as their parents, teachers and school staff.  Students from Powell Butte Charter School, Paulina School and Crook County Christian School as well as home schooled students are all encouraged to attend.
